Artist's Description

Gloriously green, wildflower filled meadows line both sides of the road in spring on the Willow City Loop near Fredericksburg, Texas.
If you happen to stumble onto this photo, please check out my extensive line of wildflower photos from Texas, California, and a few other random places. I have galleries for the states, as well as a collective Wildflower Gallery.
The Willow City area was first settled before the American Civil War, and it became a gathering point for English-speaking settlers in Gillespie County, mostly inhabited by German speaking settlers around and after the War. Named simply "Willow" in 1877 when ta post office was established, the growing community became "Willow City" ten years later. At the turn of the century, Willow City was home to 132 inhabitants, but this number dropped steadily since then, going as low as 17 in 1964 before settling around 75 since the 1970s.
Although it is unincorporated, Willow has a post office, with the ZIP code of 78675.

One of my favorite past times has been to spend the spring season hunting down amazing wildflower blooms...including two years of "Superbloom" seasons in 2017 and 2019. These times have been beyond description, so I am thrilled to have many images to look back on! Also, for many years, the Texas Hill Country has been a...
