Description
FALL EXPLOSION ON THE WEST FORK TRAIL by Lynn Bauer - A day or two before our trip to Sedona, a wind storm blew through the area. As we made our way to the most popular trail for viewing fall color (which was my primary reason for choosing Sedona at this time of year) we encountered some lovely people at the beginning of the trail who told us that most of the color was on the ground, as the peak color had been the week before. We decided to make the trek anyways! And, a couple of miles in we were rewarded with some stunning color!! This was one of my favorite spots with a mixture of red and yellow, and green leaves up against the red rock buttes of the canyon!! It doesn't get much more beautiful than this, so it was well worth the hike to get there!!
The West Fork Trail of Oak Creek is about 9 miles north of Sedona off of Highway 89A on the way to Flagstaff. It is part of the Coconino National Forest in the northern part of Arizona.
