Description
ANTELOPE VALLEY SUPERBLOOM 2017 by Lynn Bauer - The Antelope Valley is well known for the spring bloom of California's State Flower, the bright orange California Poppy. In fact, it is home to the state's Poppy Reserve, where thousands of these bright flowers cover the landscape during the spring. I happened to be out there visiting the reserve...but, as I headed home, I saw something that caught my eye, and I headed down a dirt road to find this wildflower bonanza! Beautiful pink owl's clover is mixing with bright yellow goldfields, orange-yellow fiddleneck, blue pygmy lupine, and an occasional orange poppy. The hills along the back of this image border the road to the Poppy Reserve, where you can see some of the orange glow of the poppies. It's always a joy to see the barren desert turn to a rainbow of color during the spring!
The Antelope Valley is located in the Mojave Desert and is part of Los Angeles Country, California.
