Description
KNIGHT WHEEL IN FALL FINERY by Lynn Bauer - The Historic Knight Wheel is a point of interest in the town of Mammoth Lakes, California. This is an old wheel that was hauled originally from Mojave to Mill City in 1878, and then to Mammoth in 1895 where is was used for processing gold. In 1902 it was moved to it's present location, along Old Mammoth Highway just west of Minaret Road, and converted to an electric generating plant for the Wildasinn Hotel. The rustic barn-type building that sits next to the wheel was used to house a generator. This is the oldest known building in Mammoth and is being preserved by the Southern Mono Historical Society.
The town of Mammoth Lakes is located in the beautiful Eastern Sierra Nevada mountain range of California, and sits just over the hill from Yosemite National Park.
This image is part of a series of images that will be made showcasing this lovely old building. I plan to capture this scene in every season...so, please be on the lookout for more to come!
